Glory Bridge

Four-arch rubble limestone road bridge over river, c.1775. Unpainted rendered walls over random rubble limestone construction with cut-limestone triangular cut-waters to piers, and squared rubble limestone rounded coping to parapets. Series of four round arches with cut-limestone voussoirs, and rubble limestone soffits having traces of render over. Sited spanning River Glory with grass banks to river.

Representing an important element of the mid to late eighteenth-century civil engineering heritage of County Kilkenny an elegantly-composed bridge makes a pleasing visual statement at a crossing over the River Glory. The construction in unrefined locally-sourced stone produces an appealing rustic visual effect assimilating attractively into the rural landscape while dressed limestone accents exhibit good quality stone masonry.
