Gleneary Island

Islet

What is recorded here

Gleneary Island is a small islet in Lough Carra, County Mayo, listed as an archaeological monument although the public record does not say what people made or lost there. The lake turns milky turquoise in summer when calcium carbonate leaves its water, making even an empty islet feel like a room somebody forgot to finish. Perhaps it was a crannog, a prayer enclosure, or a place for keeping fish, eggs and quiet company away from the mainland.
Gleneary Island is recorded as a islet in County Mayo. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
