Glebe Old Graveyard in County Donegal, Ireland still receives the dead beside Killygarvan Old Church, though the church itself was ruined in 1622 and called long deserted in 1706. That gap between abandonment and continued burial is the shape of the place: a church forgotten by one age, yet never released from the responsibility of witnessing. The graveyard is the living part of the story, the church merely its shadow.

Killygarvan Old Church (DG028-024): The church was in ruins in 1622 (Royal Commission, 212). The chancel of Rathmullan priory was consecrated as the parish church in 1706. Killygarvan church was described in that year as having been long deserted (Batt 1889, 42). The church is located inside a graveyard which is still in use.
