What is recorded here
Gateway, built c. 1880, formerly associated with a school, now giving access to health centre. Clustered finely tooled ashlar limestone piers surmounted by corniced flat capping stones. Wrought-iron gates with cast-iron embellishments, flanked by pedestrian gates; railings mounted on ashlar limestone plinth walls to east and west. Set on north side of Upper Magdalene Street.
These gates are a fine example of skilled craftsmanship. The combination of clustered columns, decorative gates and railings lends an architectural quality to the entrance, making this an important feature of the streetscape.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
