Gallaun stands three metres tall inside a later fort on the Iveragh Peninsula, forcing humans to stack centuries upon one another instead of solving them. A leaning slab now braces its base after Chatterton shook it easily in 1839, yet the stone still points across pasture toward the Old Head of Kinsale. Its trapezoidal body has outlived every boundary drawn around it, turning a military enclosure into a container for something older and less obedient.
