Gallán

Not marked on 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch maps. In pasture, on gentle W-facing slope. Removed, no visible surface trace. Probably one of four standing stones (10075, 10077, 10078) recorded by Bowman (1934, 480) on R. Sheehan's land: stone (a) 3ft 3in by 8ft 9in girth; stone (b) 2ft 11in by 7ft 3in girth; stone (c) 3ft 8in by 2ft 2in by 1ft 8in; stone (d) probably located (10075). Likely dating to the late prehistoric or early historic period, the stone may have had ritual or territorial significance. The name "Gallán" may derive from a saint or early Christian figure, suggesting possible later Christian association or adaptation of a prehistoric site.
