Gallán is a 3.35m rectangular standing stone in County Cork pasture, its long axis pointing ENE-WSW at the foot of a north-facing slope. It has watched grass grow and weather change for centuries, steady while life came and went around it. A person may have set it there to mark a boundary, honor a dead person or simply give the land a visible anchor. Whatever the purpose, Gallán still stands, holding that forgotten intention in its quiet stone body.
