Gallán stands three metres tall in open Cork pasture, its rectangular shadow stretching across grass while packing stones still crowd its base. The view runs unbroken in every direction, inviting people to mark time, claim territory or simply watch the sky turn. Its long axis points northeast and southwest, aligning the place with distant horizons and seasonal light.
In pasture, with commanding view in every direction. Stone (H 3m; 1.75m x 0.5m) is subrectangular in plan, with packing stones exposed at base; long axis NE-SW.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Likely dating to the Bronze Age, the stone may have functioned as a ritual or territorial marker. Its name, incorporating "Gallán," suggests a possible Christian or early legendary association, though its original prehistoric meaning remains unclear.
