What is recorded here
Detached four-bay single-storey national school, dated 1901, having central gable-fronted porch to front (south). Now vacant. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks, eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with rendered plinth and platbands, carved stone name and date plaque to gable of porch. Square-headed window openings with render sills and surrounds. Remains of one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door and concrete stepped approach. Concrete boundary wall to front of site. Set within own grounds.
An interesting early twentieth century school that survives in its original form and retains historic features including the remains of its windows and timber battened doors. Unlike earlier school buildings which had two entrances, one for boys and one for girls, this school has one central entrance. Located on the main Macroom to Ballyvourney road the school is a notable roadside addition.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
