What is recorded here

Seven stones once stood in a straight east-west line on the southern spur of Bweengduff mountain, but human hands broke the row before Bowman saw five lying flat and two still leaning. The forest has since swallowed the summit, hiding the scattered slabs from every casual eye. What remains is not a finished puzzle but an interrupted gesture, preserving the exact moment the alignment failed.

On summit of S spur of Bweengduff mountain; standing stone pair (9848) c. 950m to SSW. Site is now under forest. Bowman (1934, 552) records 'stone alignment', aligned E-W, comprising seven stones. Five stones were then prostrate and remainder inclining. Landowner informed him that they had been broken. A group of large slabs now lie on site forming no apparent arrangement. Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, the stone alignment at Galláin may have had ceremonial or astronomical significance, common to such sites in prehistoric Ireland. Local folklore or specific use is not recorded.
