Furnace in Marshes Upper

Discovered during the development of playing pitches at Dundalk Institute of Technology (Excavation Licence No. 02E0008 (area 16)). The base of an Iron Age stack furnace (int. diam. 0.38m) containing iron slag, lead, hazel, charcoal and burnt stone was excavated. A possible second furnace was noted immediately to the E.
