What is recorded here
Two furnaces were discovered here in 1998 during archaeological monitoring of works associated with the construction of a dwelling (Excavation Licence 98E0244). Furnace 1 was tadpole-shaped in plan (L 2.3m; Wth 0.48m; max. D 0.4m) while furnace 2 was pear-shaped in plan (L 1.52m; Wth 0.56m; max. D 0.26m). Finds included a number of small pieces of iron slag, a piece of burnt, glazed, medieval pottery, an animal tooth, a flint flake and a struck flint pebble. (Byrnes 2000, 221-2)
