Fulacht fia in Stripe

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

No clear fact exists to tell because the evidence disappeared under quarry work. Invention would manufacture history rather than describe the lost place.
In a valley, located to S of a NW-flowing stream. This record was listed in the 1991 SMR (1991) and RMP (1997) as a fulacht fia on the basis of information from a local source. Inspected in 1997, no visible remains of a fulacht fia were found; the location had been greatly disturbed by works associated with an extensive commercial quarry. If a fulacht fia existed here, it is likely that it has been destroyed. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 January 2021

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
