Fulacht fia is a water-boiling cooking site where hot stones dropped into a pool turned water to steam for food or bathing. In Nohaval Upper, County Cork, the mound that gave the place its name has vanished entirely, leaving only a hidden memory near St Finnian's holy well. The loss is not empty; it is a invitation to imagine the heat, the smell of wet stone and the hands of the people who used the water before the field took the shape back.

According to Ó Drisceoil (1934, 24), 'St Finnian's holy well (14028) 'is also known by the name Fulacht Fian Well; the name giving mound has been completely removed, it was in the north-west corner of a field 150 yards [137m] north-east from the well'. The precise location of this possible fulacht fia is not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
