Fulacht fia in Garryadeen

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Garryadeen holds a fulacht fia buried beneath farmland, its hot stones and wooden trough lost to time. People may have gathered there to cook food, heat water or mark a place they loved. The field above has changed, but the warmth and purpose of that ancient kitchen still belong to the land.
Spread of burnt material in tillage; not possible to determine extent. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
