Hot water raged inside the horseshoe mound while people watched the steam rise toward the NE opening. The stream ringed three sides of the pit, feeding the fire and carrying away what no longer served. A tree now holds the cracked stones in its roots, proving the violence of heat and water that shaped the earth.

Situated in the SW corner of a field of poorly-drained pasture, c. 20m S of a spring on a S-facing slope. The site is ringed from NW to S by a stream which flows down from the spring ans truncated at S by a drain. Horseshoe shaped mound (c. 16m E-W; H 1.5m) with an opening (Wth 4.4m) facing towards the NE. Fire-cracked stones are visible in the roots of a tree on the mound.
