Coolnaleen Lower holds a hidden fulacht fia buried inside an ancient fort. Men digging a drain struck its trough and pulled out burnt stones and charcoal, proving the site still existed beneath the grass. The fort likely used the pit to boil water or food, turning raw material into life sustenance. The earth kept that busy origin secret until the spade broke through.

This site is situated one field SSW of another fulacht fiadh (KE010-077----). According to the landowner, while a drain was being dug through the rath (KE010-074----), the trough of a fulacht fiadh was discovered along with some burnt stones and charcoal. No surface trace of this site can be seen today. Originally it lay in the centre of the fort. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
