Fulacht fia in Clondulane South

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Hot stones cracked and hissed in marsh water while people waited for warmth or clean clothes. The buried mound still holds that heat, and the holy well beside it suggests the site fed both body and belief. Clondulane South was not a passive field; it was a working place where water, fire and patience met.
In marshy ground. Overgrown mound of burnt material (12m E-W; c. 6m N-S; H 0.32m). Holy well (13963) c. 10m to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
