Fulacht fia in Barnacahoge

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Located on the E bank of a stream which flows to N through a narrow, steep-sided valley. Compact horseshoe-shaped mound (12m NNE−SSW; 10.3m WNW−ESE; H 1m at N-E, 1.4m at W) composed of heat-shattered stones in charcoal-rich soil. A hollow area (3m WNW−ESE; 1.2m NNE−SSW) between the ‘arms’ of the mound opens to WNW facing the stream, and may indicate the location of a trough. The mound is covered by a thin layer of sod and heather, and is truncated on its SSW edge by an E−W field wall. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 May 2021
