Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

In pasture, at the bottom of a S-facing slope, on the edge of an overgrown level marshy area with views SW to the Paps of Dana. In the 1940s a fulacht fia was recorded in James Lucy's land in a field called 'Mach' (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry). The location of a mound of burnt material was pointed out by the present landowner but there are no visible remains of it. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
