Saint Joseph's Catholic ChurchChurch/chapel · 1.0 mi

Explorer Tom Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Rathmore got lost en route to a bigger parish and never checked its map. The Gothic details are sharp enough to cut through your bad decisions. Pack a picnic and an excuse.

Rathmore Railway StationRailway station · 2.3 mi

Explorer Tom Rathmore Railway Station has a shortcut that leads you back to where you started. Opened in 1855, it has survived more renovations than most marriages. Bring a flask of something warm and a story to swap.

The Paps WestMountain / peak · 4.4 mi

Explorer Tom The Paps West has been in a furious fairy dispute over parking rights with the clouds for the last three centuries. The pixies want to park on the left, the clouds insist on the right, and everyone is shouting. Have a look and decide if I was lying.

Caherbarnagh nw TopMountain / peak · 4.8 mi

Explorer Tom Caherbarnagh nw Top would review its visitors as 'adequate, though one lost a shoe'. It sits quietly in the northwest corner, judging everyone who thinks they can conquer it in flip-flops. Grand place for a sulk or a snog, your call.

Flesk CastleCastle · 9.0 mi

Explorer Tom Flesk Castle is arguing with a fairy about who gets the best parking spot. The wind has been picking on its roof for centuries, probably because it looks like it’s trying to fly away. Grand place for a sulk or a snog, your call.

Sheheree Bog Nature ReserveNature reserve · 9.3 mi

Explorer Tom Sheheree Bog Nature Reserve in County Kerry is basically a giant swampy trampoline that nobody maintains. I bet the guy who drew up the map just said 'put a bog there' and went to get a sandwich, leaving us to figure out if it's safe. Linger, it's not going anywhere and neither should you.

Red Deer of IrelandSculpture · 10.0 mi

Explorer Tom Red Deer of Ireland stands there looking like the mother-in-law who designed it finally got her own monument. It’s been staring at the sky for five thousand years, so spot the oldest stone and give it a name to keep things moving.

McCarthy Mor CastleCastle · 10 mi

Explorer Tom McCarthy Mor Castle’s New Year's resolution is to stop falling down, but it’s already failed twice this decade. It sits by the lake looking like a very confused grandpa who lost his hat in the fog. Count the crows, then count again.

Muckross AbbeyVisitor attraction · 10 mi

Explorer Tom Muckross Abbey in Kerry gave up meat for Lent but probably snuck some bacon in its windows just to spite the monks who built it all those years ago. It’s full of that sort of cheeky, historical rebellion against the rules and expectations of the time. Stop the car, it's worth the hazard lights.

European Yew10 mi

Explorer Tom Two families are feuding over this European Yew in County Kerry, purely because they can't agree on the view. It’s just a tree, but their pride is massive. Have a sandwich here and call it a heritage lunch.

TooreencormickBattlefield · 10 mi

Explorer Tom Tooreencormick is playing hard to get, sitting on Mangerton like it’s keeping a secret from everyone. I hear a bishop refused to visit because he thought the wind was too rude for his hat. Grand place for a sulk or a snog, your call.

Castlelough BayBay · 10 mi

Explorer Tom Castellough Bay has a bird that refuses to leave no matter how much the wind tries to blow it away, and frankly, I envy its commitment to staying put. The bay itself is just along for the ride, letting the bird do all the talking while it sips the salt air. Bring a map, get lost anyway, that's the fun.
