What is recorded here

Hot water hissed through Ballynahina stone troughs while people waited for food or clean cloth. The bypass came later, but the mound still holds its shattered stones and dark soil. Fourteen features and two true troughs remain marked inside a twelve-metre oval. Heat and patience built that place before roads passed it.

This fulacht fia was excavated in 2003 in advance of the construction of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass (Quinn 2006a, 33-4). It consisted of a mound (12m E-W; 8m N-S) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil and 43 associated features including two troughs, a possible third trough and a number of shallow pits.
