Fulacht fia in Ballymorisheen

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Ballymorisheen hides a fulacht fia beside a levelled rath, yet high grass swallowed the marks before anyone could picture the pit or handle the hot stones. The field may have smelled of wet earth and wood smoke when people gathered there, while later footsteps forgot the exact spot. What is missing is not nothing; it is a life that stopped being shown.
According to local information, there is a fulacht fia in the same field as a levelled rath (CO051-104----). No remains of it were visible in 2002 when the field was in high grass. Its precise location is not known. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
