Fulacht fia in Ahaneboy — Report the wrong picture

Ahaneboy holds a fulacht fia, a boiling place where hot stones cracked water into steam for cooking or cleaning. In 1966 a landowner levelled the mound of black earth and burnt stone, erasing the shape but not the heat it once held. The site still belongs to County Kerry, carrying the memory of people who transformed raw nature into sustenance through fire and patience.

This record was formerly classed as a 'fulacht fiadh' in both the SMR (1990) and the RMP (1997). The monument is described by the 'Castleisland District Archaeological Survey' - March 1990 - as a 'mound of black earth and burnt stone' which had been levelled by the landowner in 1966 (SMR file)
