Dooneen enclosure stood on a south-sloping break in Kerry pastureland, watching low countryside in three directions until a farm track cut through it and a local man confirmed the fort was levelled more than sixty years before the 1987 survey. What remains is absence with a shape: a route made where a boundary once stood, and a view still generous to whoever pauses beside it.

Levelled enclosure surveyed in 1987 by the Castleisland District Archaeological Survey and described as follows; 'on a break in pastureland sloping down to the south with exceptionally good views over the low lying countryside to the SW, S and SE. Field fences have been removed from the vicinity of the site and a recently built farm track runs through its approximate location. There is no surface evidence of the monument.
