Frankford Bridge

Triple-arch limestone road bridge over river between Muckno Mill Lough and Lough Muckno, built c.1830, with single dry arch. Elliptical arches with cut-stone voussoirs and squared stone gunnelled soffits. Squared stone parapet walls with rubble stone copings, stretching to east and west, covering flood plains. Rendered V-cutwaters to north and south elevations.

Located south-west of Frankford Presbyterian church Frankford Bridge is a landmark on the Castleblayney to Newtownhamilton road. The triple-arch bridge spans the flood plains of a river flowing from Muckno Mill Lough to the north-east to Muckno Lough to the south. This well-executed stone bridge is a picturesque landmark on the river, employing local materials in its construction, with cut limestone to the voussoirs, soffits, spandrels, parapet wall and buttresses. That the bridge remains in use in its present form is testament to the quality of its construction.
