What is recorded here
Crannog in Lisleitrim Lough, County Armagh: an artificial island in the lough, recorded for the early Christian period and still scheduled as a heritage site. People built up that small island from lake sediment, reeds and soil, then lived there beside the water. The crannog is no longer visible in the same way, but the lough still holds the shape of that choice: a home made in open water, where the boundary between land and lake was invented rather than accepted.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG IN LISLEITRIM LOUGH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
