Franckfort Castle in County Offaly is a deceptive name, for no medieval building or moat survives beneath the late 18th and 19th-century demesne walls. The 1732 datestone above the eastern entrance likely marks a lost post-medieval structure, not the castle itself. What remains is a garden of borrowed time, where stones from forgotten buildings were reset into newer walls and the true castle vanished before the demesne was drawn.

No building of medieval date survives amongst the late 18th/19th-century demesne buildings. Datestone over entrance to bawn wall on E side is an insertion and does not date the existing demesne wall. The stone is dated 1732 and probably belongs to a post-medieval building on the same site. The surviving moat is late 18th/19th-century in date and has no medieval associations.
