Fountain

St Patrick's Well, just N of the cathedral (RO016-127002-), was enclosed in a masonry pier (dims 0.8m x 0.8m; H 0.8m) in the 19th century. It was re-established in 1984, enclosed in its pier and provided with a patio, at which time a large stone (RO016-127009-) was erected nearby to commemorate the original foundation. Linked to St Patrick, the well is associated with early Christian pilgrimage and is believed to have curative properties, particularly for eye ailments. It was historically venerated as a holy site and its 19th-century enclosure reflects continued reverence for the saint and his spiritual legacy in the region.
