What is recorded here

Fort Elizabeth is a lost mound between Croom and Fort William, described by Westropp in 1920 but not found during a later visit. It may have been swallowed by fields, forgotten in boundary changes or misnamed in local memory. What remains is a gap where a shape should stand, inviting imagination to fill the silence.

Unlocated mound described by Westropp (1920, 375-6) as following; 'Another overgrown tumulus, similar to Sheenafinnoge [LI031-004----] lies between the last and Croom, north of the main road.' A site visit by the ASI in 2001 found no earthworks in the vicinity of Fort William house. Compiled by: Martin Fitzpatrick Date of upload: 31 July 2020
