Dangan Lower holds a lost ford beneath the River Corrib, marked only by a La Tene sword, Bann flakes and a dugout canoe rather than visible stones. Menlough castle still stands above the water, suggesting the crossing served more than passing trade. The river keeps its own ledger, taking what it wants and returning fragments that prove people once forced their way through.

The discovery of a number of stray finds from this section of the river, including Bann flakes, a La Tène sword and a dugout canoe, suggests the existence of a crossing point here, as may also the castle.
