Fish Pond

Fish-pond

What is recorded here

Fish Pond in County Longford lost its water but kept its shape, forcing every visitor to imagine the life that once filled the hollow. It may have served the unclassified castle nearby, feeding kitchens or rewarding patience during long winters. The dry terrace still dips into the earth like a forgotten cup, waiting for rain or memory to complete it.
Possibly associated with an unclassified castle (LF027-046----) c. 140m to the NW. Depicted and named 'Fish Pond' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. The pond is now dry but a large sunken terrace marks its location. Earthworks (LF027-046002-) may be associated. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 13 February 2013
