Firville House

Detached three-bay two-storey over basement house, built c.1820, having recent timber-framed addition on concrete piers to rear (east) elevation. Hipped slate roof with timber-clad overhanging eaves, rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with rendered plinth band and rendered platband below eaves. Rendered wall to basement level of rear elevation. Camber-headed window openings with stone sills throughout, having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed window opening with render sill to basement level of rear elevation having uPVC casement window. Round-headed door opening to front (west) elevation, having render doorcase comprising Ionic columns surmounted by frieze and corbelled cornice. Timber panelled door surmounted by fanlight with tooled limestone stepped approach. Square-headed door opening to basement level of rear elevation, having glazed timber door. Complex of outbuildings to east, including three-bay single-storey former stable, now in use as garage and workshop.

A fine house that maintained much of its historic character through the retention of historic fabric including stone sills, sash windows, hipped slate roof and a decorative doorcase. It form and design are typical of nineteenth century domestic fashions in the first part of the century. The associated outbuildings contextualise the house and enhance its setting.
