Field system in Garraun Beg

Field system

What is recorded here

Immediately W of a field system (GA044-058----). Several curving banks are visible on the aerial photograph (CUCAP BDT 84), covering an area c. 220m NW-SE by c. 150m NE-SW. These possibly indicate an enclosure or simply a separate section of the adjacent field system: the latter includes a number of small irregular fields. The area has subsequently been cleared and no visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
