Field boundary in Fanahy

In an area of heather-clad cutaway bog, on a S-facing slope, on the S foothills of Miskish Mountain. A relict stone field boundary (T 0.5m; H 0.3m) emerges from cutaway bog, c. 14m N of the Fanahy road, and extends in a general NNW direction through the heather for a distance of c. 140m. Most of the visible stones are prostrate and are embedded in the shallow peat or in the boulder clay beneath it. Several gaps occur along the stretch of relict wall, especially in areas of uncut bog where the stones are covered. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
