Farmleigh in Boley kept its grand gateway after the main house was demolished. It’s the country-estate version of putting on your best voice to announce, ‘We’re not receiving visitors, ’ because you haven’t a sitting room. Or a house.

Gateway, c. 1820. Detached two-storey outbuilding, c. 1820, to site. Group of detached outbuildings, c. 1980, to site. Remainder of estate (including house) demolished with site cleared. Artist Francis Bacon lived here for a short while with his grandmother, Winifred Margaret Supple.
