Hardyman is a lost boundary cairn on the mountains above Ballaghmore, recorded by Roe around 1940 and buried beneath forest since. It may have marked a townland, a hunting ground or a claim older than memory. The mountains kept the name while the stones disappeared, proving that borderlines can be invisible but still unbroken.

Located on the mountains above Ballaghmore is a cairn called 'Fear Breige' or 'The Hardy Man' (Roe c. 1940). The area is now forested; not located. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran.
