Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Skeavally

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Skeavally is a fairy fort or stone ringfort in Skeavally, County Roscommon, Ireland. The 1915 Ordnance Survey map marked a circular enclosure about 60 metres across on a gentle south-east facing slope among field walls. The pasture no longer shows the earthworks, but the shape and setting match a cashel rather than a fictional fairy dwelling.
Marked only on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (ext. diam. c. 60m), and situated on a gentle SE-facing slope in an area with field walls. It is not visible at ground level in pasture but it was probably a cashel. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
