Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Knocknabooly East

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Knocknabooly East holds a collapsed stone ring, twenty metres across, where a rock outcrop to the west may have fed the wall. The fort has no visible entrance, and dense bushes now block the interior, turning a human dwelling into an unreadable chamber. Whatever life moved inside that circle has vanished beneath leaves and silence.
In pasture; on E-W ridge, at foot of S-facing slope. Circular area (diam. c. 20m) enclosed by collapsed dry-stone wall (int. H c. 0.8m; ext. H c. 1m; Wth top c. 0.8m). Wall facing survives with coursing visible in many areas. No entrance feature apparent. Interior inaccessible due to dense overgrowth of trees and bushes. Rock outcrop short distance to W of site may be quarry for stones used in wall. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
