What is recorded here

Knockaraheen holds a forty-eight-metre stone ring where human angles and fairy circles collide. A rectangular hut and shadowy underground passage still mark the inside, proving the site served living people before joining local myth. The collapsed wall and hidden entrance suggest the fort resisted final death, preserving a boundary where memory, danger and transformation still meet.

Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 48m) enclosed by a largely collapsed drystone wall. Original entrance not recognisable. A rectangular hut site (int. dims. 6m E-W; 5m N-S) enclosed by a low stone wall, accompanied by an L-shaped depression which may represent a Man-made underground passage (CCV043-015002-) or possibly a second hut site, occur within the internal area. Traces of an internal dividing wall running N-S are visible at N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
