What is recorded here

Knockane held a true stone ringfort with a cave in its heart, visible on the 1842 map but erased from later charts and lost beneath the living land. The fairies did not abandon the fort; they dragged it downward, folded the stones into hill soil and took the cave with them. People stopped finding the entrance because the whole place learned not to be found.

This circular enclosure is clearly marked on the 1842 OS map. 'Cave' is marked in the centre of the fort. It does not appear on the later edition OS map, and no surface trace survives today.
