Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Kilbehy

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilbehy holds a broken stone ring where human hands and fairy claims overlap. The visible bank is low, but the hidden chamber beneath may be twice as deep, according to local story. People may have lived there before forgetting the name, or the land may have shaped the stones to test whether they listened.
In pasture, on gentle E-facing slope, in area of outcropping limestone. Sub-circular area (27.5m N-S; 30m E-W) enclosed by stone bank (int. H 1m; ext. H 0.8m). Bank, best preserved at W, is generally denuded elsewhere becoming low and scarp-like at NE. Boulders dumped along external bank face at SSE immediately before it is incorporated into field boundary system at SW. Interior, covered by mature deciduous trees, has slightly higher W half; oval area (5m N-S; 6.3m E-W) enclosed by stone bank (H 0.4m) in NW quadrant.
