Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Garracloon South

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible castle exists, only a collapsed oval wall hidden beneath grass and bramble. The fort is a forgotten chamber where children were buried, their small bodies committed to the same earth that now feeds cattle. It is not a display, but a loss that stopped being spoken about.
In gently rolling pastureland. Poorly preserved oval cashel (34.5m NE-SW; 30.4m NW-SE) defined by a collapsed drystone wall much obscured by overgrowth. A children's burial ground (GA096-098----) lies within the interior. (McCaffrey 1952, 158, no. 61) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 19 December 2017
