Doonmacfelim holds a well-preserved cashel on a level limestone outcrop, its double-faced wall enclosing a narrow oval space above an extensive multiperiod field system. Three enormous slabs lie flat along the western wall, possibly covering a hidden chamber, while upright stones and overgrowth fill the interior. Another cashel sits nearby to the northeast, suggesting a small cluster of defended or ceremonial places rather than a lonely ruin. The name Fairy fort may reflect local tradition more than fact, yet the sudden scale of the stones and the wide southern view make it easy to understand why people once treated the site with awe.

On quite level limestone outcrop with some overgrowth but offering wide views, especially to the S, over the surrounding extensive multiperiod field system (CL008-109001-). Hachured on the 1897 OS 25-inch plan and 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the RMP (1996). This well-preserved subcircular cashel (int. dims. 21.5 N-S; 19.25 E-W) is defined by a double-faced wall (Wth 1.72-2.4m; int. H 0.1-1.25m; ext. H 0.1-1.7m) which is slightly wider at the base. Lying flat on top of the wall at the WSW are three very large limestone slabs (max. L 2.8m). A possible hollow underneath them (obscured by wall tumble and overgrowth) suggests a partly exposed intramural chamber. A small rectangular animal shelter is built against the outer wall-face at the NNW. Within the very overgrown and stony interior of the cashel are several upright slabs. There is another cashel (CL008A003005-) c. 29m to the NE, another (CL008A003003-) c. 38m to the SW, and an enclosure (CL008A003009-) c. 84m to the NE.
