Beagh Ed, a stone ringfort in Cregboy, County Galway, is one of those places people still call a fairy fort, as if the stones belonged to someone smaller and quicker than us. That name does not dismiss the structure; it admits the edge the place keeps. A cashel is a made thing, built to hold life against weather and loss, yet local memory has slipped it into the fairy world because it still feels occupied. Perhaps it is. Perhaps the wall simply never stopped being useful.
