Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Creevykeel

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Creevykeel is a fairy fort or stone ringfort in Creevykeel, County Sligo, Ireland. It stood on a small pasture rise but disappeared after local development levelled the ground. A 1942 inspection recorded a cashel and an underground passage inside it, yet neither feature remains visible today. The site never appeared on standard county maps, preserving its identity only through that brief field observation.
Situated on top of a small rise in pasture. Not marked on any edition of the OS 6-inch map. The site was inspected by an OPW fieldworker in 1942 and the ensuing field report recorded the site of a cashel with a Man-made underground passage (see SL003-028002-) within its interior (SMR file). This monument has been levelled and there are no remains of either cashel or Man-made underground passage now visible. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 16 April 2013
