Fairy fort in Cashel, County Carlow: a broken ring of large granite boulders, about two courses high, still marking a circular space thirty-one metres wide. People may have lived there, excluded others, or simply followed an old boundary the land already understood. The stones do not explain themselves; they wait for someone strong enough to carry them and clever enough to know when not to.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Bank of large granite boulders, two courses high (H 1m; W 1.7m) visible from E-S-W, enclosing a circular area (diam. 31m).
