Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Aughacasla North — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

Ten to fifteen metres of loose stone once circled a square house foundation on the flat coastal plain near Tralee Bay. The landowner removed the remains about fifteen years ago, erasing the small cashel that resisted easy definition. What vanished may have been a human home, a boundary marker or a child version of a fortress, but the stones agreed on one thing: a circle drawn around life.

This site was marked on the 2nd edition of the OS map as a circular mound. The landowner, who removed the remains about 15 years ago, described it as a circular band of loose stones enclosing a square structure which resembled the foundations of a house. It was c. 10 to 15m in diameter. On the basis of this description it seems likely that it was a small cashel. The site lies c. 250m from the seashore on the level coastal plain bordering the S side of Tralee Bay. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
