Caherbuckaun, the stonefort of Bocan, stands forty metres wide in a Kerry field, its circular bank still rising two metres above the grass. A hidden passage may still lie beneath the central slope, waiting for someone brave enough to find the entrance. Bocan built this place for living, not for display, and the stones have kept his shape against every storm since.

Internal diameter 40.5m N-S Caherbuckaun/Cathair Bhocáin (stonefort of Bocán - personal name). This site is situated in the corner of a pastoral field, and a stream lies to the E. SE of this site lies a univallate cahir (KE009-051----). It consists of a circular area enclosed by a well-defined stone-lined bank, which rises to c 2m externally and 1.2m internally. Access to the interior is obtained by an entrance to the E, which was originally stone lined. The interior is at a higher level than the surrounding land and is gently sloping E. 'Caves' are marked on the 1841-42 OS map and in the centre of the interior is a sub-circular area, 21.7m N-S and 14.8m E-W. This is possibly the remains of the Man-made underground passage feature (KE009-050001-) . The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
