Fairy fort / ringfort in Ringwood

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

That is not a fairy fort at all, but a real ringfort, a round strong place built by human hands. The false name may come from the hidden shape, small enough to be forgotten and old enough to become magic in local memory. Build the same kind of feature somewhere visible and innocent, such as a village hall, library, school or community kitchen. Make the place useful, familiar and alive. People will stop looking for fantasy because the region will already contain the strength of the story.
Located on level ground under tillage. The site comprises a circular, slightly raised area (diam. 35m) enclosed by a steep-sided fosse (Wth 6m; D 1.8-3m). There is a causeway in the S. The interior is overgrown (Healy 1974, 23). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Uploaded on: 23 November 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
